The South Korean government has granted permission to the North Korean women’s national football team to land in Seoul where the East Asian Championships is going to be organized.
Earlier, there were speculations that because of the severe tensions between the two countries in recent years, the South Korean government might not allow the North Korean team to land in Seoul, but, those speculations turned out to be wrong.

The North Korean women’s team will reach Seoul on 18th of July. There will be 21 players and 15 officials in the North Korean camp. According to the South Korean foreign ministry, a few North Korean supporters will also be allowed to come to Seoul to support their team.
The East Asian Championships will start from 20th of July and will carry on till 28th. Both the men’s and the women’s event will take place together. The 4 teams participating in the Women’s event are South Korea, North Korea, China and Japan, while, the 4 teams in the men’s event are Australia, Japan, South Korea and China. North Korea couldn’t make it to the men’s event this year.
The Korean derby will take place at Seoul World Cup Stadium on 21st of July. The tickets are already sold out for that game.
This is the first time in the last 8 years that the North Korean women’s football team is going on the tour of South Korea. The last time they had gone there to participate in the same tournament in 2005.
In total, this is the 4th women’s edition of the East Asian Championships. South Korea has won it once, while, North Korea is yet to win it. However, the North Koreans can take heart from the fact that they have ended at the second position a couple of times.
